GREENSBORO, N.C. – Matt McCollester has
been hired as UNCG’s director of media relations, Director of
Athletics Kim Record announced Monday.
McCollester comes to UNCG after spending the last six years as an
assistant director of athletics media relations at Ball State. He
will assume his duties with the Spartans on June 18.
McCollester served as the primary media relations contact for
men’s basketball, baseball and women’s soccer at Ball
State. He was also the women’s basketball contact for two
seasons and assisted with publicity efforts for BSU’s
nationally ranked football team in 2007 and 2008.
As the industry has changed, McCollester produced Ball
State’s first-ever digital media guides for his assigned
sports, integrating video and user interaction into the
publications. He also developed social media platforms for his
sports.
Prior to his stint at Ball State, McCollester served as an
assistant director of media relations at Arkansas State from
2004-06. There, he was the primary contact for women’s
basketball, baseball, women’s volleyball and women’s
soccer.
He also completed media relations internships with Harvard,
Slippery Rock and Louisville.
McCollester earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management
from Slippery Rock in 2003. He is married to the former Deb Puaca
and they have a 16-month-old son named Evan.
“I want to thank Director of Athletics Kim Record and
Associate AD Tim George for the opportunity to join the UNCG
family,” McCollester said. “I am excited to work with
an outstanding group of coaches, staff and student-athletes. This
is an exciting time for UNCG athletics and I look forward to being
part of the team.”
