Fall 2012 Southern Conference All-Academic Team Honorees (PDF)
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – More than 300
student-athletes earned spots on the Academic All-Southern
Conference Team for the 2012 fall semester, the league office
announced Monday.
To be eligible, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3
cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and were
required to compete in at least one-half of their team's
competitions during the recently-concluded fall campaign. In
addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at
least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
UNCG landed at least two student-athletes from each fall sport on
the All-Academic Team with men’s soccer senior goalkeeper
Peyton Ford (3.98) and women’s soccer senior defender Tinna
Bergthorsdottir (3.96) leading the way. The SoCon regular season
champion women’s soccer squad placed six of the
Spartans’ 19 student-athletes on the team.
The league’s 12 women’s soccer programs provided the
most academic all-conference members with 79, followed by football
with 58 and women’s cross country with 51.
Among member institutions, Wofford led all schools with 37
members on the academic all-conference team. Appalachian State was
second with 33, edging Elon, which had 32.
