Falcon leads UNCG to the 2-0 shutout over Georgia Southern

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro senior Ryan Falcon pitched his first complete game and shutout of the season to lead the Spartans to the 2-0 victory over Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern on Friday evening at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

With the win, the Spartans snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 13-13 overall with a 2-3 conference record. Georgia Southern is now 14-12 overall and 0-4 in the SoCon.

Falcon (2-5) scattered just two hits and gave up two walks while on the mound for UNCG. The Rougemont, NC product struck out a season-high eight batters throwing 109 pitches.

Brian Wilkerson (4-4) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits. Wilkerson struck out four batters in eight innings of work.

After 6-1/2 scoreless innings, UNCG took the lead when junior Ricky Orton blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. Greg Feltes singled and stole second before Orton sent his second roundtripper of the season over right-center field. It was enough to give the Spartans the 2-0 win.

Orton led the Spartans behind the plate and finished 2-for-3 in the victory. Feltes and junior Scott Schneider each tallied a hit for UNCG.

UNCG and Georgia Southern continue a three-game series Saturday afternoon at 1 pm from UNCG Baseball Stadium.
