Hassebrock named Baseball America summer top prospect

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro junior Blake Hassebrock was named by Baseball America to their top prospect list for the 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Hassebrock was picked as the number two prospect to play in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate League this past summer.

Baseball America ranked the top-30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top-10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top-20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

While playing for the Youse's Orioles this summer, Hassebrock pitched in 24 2/3 innings while appearing in 16 games. He had a 2.55 ERA for the summer with a 1-2 record and seven saves. He allowed just 18 hits all summer while striking out 29 and yielding 19 walks. Opposing batters hit just .205 off the righty from High Point, N.C., and Hassebrock didn't give up a home run all summer.

This past season for the Spartans, Hassebrock had a 5.32 ERA in 47 1/3 innings of work. He struck out 34 batters and gave up 27 walks during the 2009 season. Perhaps his best performance of the season came against Appalachian State when he pitched 7 2/3 innings and allowed only three hits and no earned runs while striking out six in the 3-1 win over the Mountaineers.
