GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior left-handed pitcher Corey Taylor has been named to the 2012 Perfect Game Summer Collegiate All-America Third Team, according to an announcement Thursday by the organization.
Taylor pitched for the Baltimore Redbirds of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League (CRL) and helped the squad capture the 2012 league title. The Redbirds finished the regular season 28-13, just two games behind the Rockville Express, and defeated the Bethesda Big Train in the league championship series.
The Fallston, Md., native racked up a 6-1 record with 51 strikeouts over 49 innings pitched and eight complete games – all team highs – while also leading the league in ERA (2.76) and wins.
Taylor also checks in at No. 11 on the Cal Ripken prospect rankings while Perfect Game ranked Baltimore the ninth-best team in all of summer ball.
During his junior season at UNCG, Taylor compiled a 3-2 record with 47 strikeouts over 59 innings. He picked up his first win of the campaign against Penn State Feb. 25 when he scattered two hits and struck out nine while allowing one run that was unearned. It was the first victory of his Spartan career as he spent the first two seasons of his collegiate eligibility at Hartford Community College.
