Hines named MidMajority.com's National Player of the Week
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro forward Kyle Hines was named MidMajority.com’s Player of the Week for his outstanding performance in UNCG’s season-opening win at Georgia Tech on Friday night.
MidMajority.com is the creation of Kyle Whelliston, ESPN’s mid-major basketball writer. Whelliston calls his award the Mid-Major Baller of the Week.
Hines, a senior from Sicklerville, NJ, shot 10-for-12 from the floor and had 25 points and nine rebounds as UNCG won at Georgia Tech, 83-74, on Friday night. It was UNCG’s first-ever win over an ACC school in 25 meetings. He had 17 points in the first half in extending his scoring streak to 51 consecutive games in double-figures, which is the longest current streak in the nation.
In seven career games against the ACC, Hines is now averaging 19.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per contest. He shot 52.9 percent from the floor in those seven games, six of which he scored in double figures and four of them were 20-point games.
Hines now has 1,616 career points, 30 shy of the UNCG career scoring record held by Jay Joseph.
UNCG (1-0) will head to Springfield, MO, on Thursday for this weekend’s Missouri State Price Cutter Classic. UNCG will face UT-Pan American at 6:35 pm ET (5:35 pm local) on Friday and tournament host Missouri State at 9 pm ET (8 pm local) on Saturday.
