Eargle named to SoCon's All-Freshman squad

CHATTANOOGA, TN – UNC Greensboro freshman forward Damian Eargle was named to the Southern Conference's All-Freshman squad Thursday in a vote of the league's men's basketball coaches.

Eargle, a native of Harding, OH, was joined on the squad by The Citadel's John Brown, Georgia Southern's Ben Drayton III, Brad Loesing of Wofford and Harouna Mutombo of Western Carolina. Mutombo was selected the league's Freshman of the Year.

Eargle started 20 of the 28 games he played this season, averaging 9.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest. He leads the league in blocked shots with 57. He averaged 11.6 points in league play, including a season-high 25 points in a win over Appalachian State back in January – the most scored by a UNCG freshman in 18 years.

Davidson's Stephen Curry was named the conference's Player of the Year, while The Citadel's Ed Conroy was named the Coach of the Year.
