UNCG picks up seventh TV game as part of SoCon/SportSouth package
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference and SportSouth announced their 2010-11 basketball television schedule on Tuesday and UNCG picked up one more regular season televised contest to raise the number to a school-record seven this season.
UNCG's game at Elon on February 19 will be televised as part of the Southern Conference's SportSouth package. Game time will be shifted to 8 p.m.
UNCG will have six non-conference games televised, as well. UNCG will appear on ESPNU twice, FSN-South twice and Comcast SportsNet regional affiliates twice. With one of the two Comcast SportsNet games also being picked up by New England Sports Network (NESN), five of the seven games will be available on Direct TV, while all six non-conference will be available through Dish Network. Further clearances of the seven games may come later after ESPN announces its Full Court lineup.
The other six TV games for UNCG are Nov. 14 against Florida State (3:30 p.m.), Nov. 21 against Virginia Tech (1 p.m.), Dec. 8 at Maryland (7:30 p.m.), Dec. 15 at Wake Forest (7 p.m.), Dec. 19 at Clemson (2 p.m.) and Dec. 29 vs. Duke (7 p.m.).
The SoCon Saturdays brand, utilized to promote Southern
Conference broadcasts on SportSouth, returns for the 2010-11
campaign as 10 of the 11 regular-season games will be televised on
Saturdays.
SportSouth's coverage of SoCon basketball begins December 4 with a
men's and women's doubleheader. The first game of the
afternoon features a men's contest between North Division opponents
Western Carolina and Chattanooga. Later that day the
Chattanooga women's team will play host to Georgia Southern.
The final regular season men's telecast features 2010 conference
champion Wofford taking on rival Furman.
All 12 of the league's men's basketball programs will make at
least one appearance on SportSouth this season.
SportSouth will televise the semifinals of the 2011 Southern
Conference Men's Basketball Tournament in Chattanooga. In
addition, SporSouth will televise a pair of semifinal matchups as
well as the championship game of the SoCon Women's Basketball
Tournament also in Chattanooga.
The Southern Conference, in its 90th season of intercollegiate
competition, is a national leader in emphasizing the development of
the student-athlete and helping build lifelong leaders and role
models. The conference has been on the forefront of
innovation and originality in developing creative solutions to
address issues facing intercollegiate athletics. From
establishing the first conference basketball tournament (1921),
tackling the issues of freshman eligibility (1922), developing
women's championships (1984) to becoming the first conference to
install the three-point goal in basketball (1980), the Southern
Conference has been a pioneer. The Southern Conference is the
nation's fifth-oldest NCAA Division I collegiate athletic
association.
The conference currently consists of 12 members in five states
throughout the southeast and sponsors 19 varsity sports and
championships that produce participants for NCAA Division I
Championships.
