UNCG announces broadcast agreement with Curtis Media's Triad Sports Network
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG Director of Athletics Kim Record announced Friday that the athletic department has come to terms with Curtis Media Group to broadcast Spartan men's basketball games for the upcoming 2010-11 season.
Curtis Media recently formed the Triad Sports Network – a trio of AM stations providing all sports programming with ESPN radio affiliation. UNCG will be utilizing 1320 WCOG-AM as its flagship station for the broadcasts. In addition, select games will also be broadcast on FM Talk 101.1 WZTK.
"We are very excited about this new partnership with Curtis Media," said Record. "We broadcast a partial schedule on WZTK to supplement our network last season. With Curtis' formation of the Triad Sports Network, it gave us a natural home for our broadcasts. It also expands our reach in the Piedmont Triad, which is important as we strive to build our brand."
WCOG-AM has a 5,000-watt signal, which will provide broader coverage for Spartan basketball broadcasts. The station's weekday lineup includes ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike in the Morning," followed by Curtis sports director Taylor Zarzour from 9 a.m.-noon; David Glenn, publisher of The ACC Sports Journal, from noon-3 p.m., and Mark Packer's "Prime Time With the Packman" from 3-7 p.m.. ESPN Radio covers nights and weekends.
FM Talk 101.1 WZTK has a 100,000-watt signal that broadcasts nearly statewide and into parts of Virginia and Tennessee.
"The Triad Sports Network is very excited about the new affiliation with UNCG," said Tom Hamilton, general manager of the Triad Sports Network. "There is a huge Spartan alumni and fan base in the Triad and they will love the way the Triad Sports Network and FM Talk 101.1 WZTK team up to deliver UNCG Spartan basketball broadcasts this year."
Founded in 1968, Curtis Media Group (CMG) is North Carolina's largest independent radio broadcaster with 25 radio stations and 72 affiliates reaching more than two million weekly listeners across the state. In addition to the Triad Sports Network, CMG operates the North Carolina News Network, Triangle Traffic Network, CMG Interactive Marketing, TriangleHelpWanted.com, the Southern Farm Network, CMG Southern Sales and State Government Radio.com.
UNCG opens the 2010-11 season at VCU on Friday, Nov. 12. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
