Also returning for the Spartans is senior guard Derrell Armstrong (Mechanicsville, Md./Allegany CC), who earned Third Team All-SoCon honors last year. Armstrong finished the year second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game, despite coming off the bench in 29 contests.
North Carolina State is coming off of a 24-13 record last season, including an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. The Wolfpack return their top four scorers from last year's team, including leading scorer CJ Leslie, who averaged 14.7 points per game while leading the team with 7.3 rebounds per contest.
The Spartans and Wolfpack have met seven times prior to this season's contest, with NC State winning all seven meetings. The teams last met during the 2009-10 campaign when the Wolfpack posted an 89-67 victory on New Year's Eve.

Men's Basketball Game At NC State New Year's Eve To Be Televised By ESPNU
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's basketball game scheduled December 31, 2012 at NC State has been chosen for an ESPNU national telecast. The game will now tip-off at 1 p.m. at PNC Arena in Raleigh and will be the first game for the Spartans over the air on ESPNU since UNCG hosted Duke (12/29/10).
UNCG enters the 2012-13 season returning four starters and 11 letterwinners total from last year's Southern Conference North Division championship team. The Spartans are highlighted by junior Trevis Simpson (Douglas, Ga./Coffee), who became the first UNCG player to lead the league in scoring when he averaged 18.3 points per game as a sophomore. Simpson earned First Team All-SoCon honors last year when he scored in double figures 27 of 30 games, including 13 games of 20-plus points.
