Men's Basketball Returns Home to Face Final Non-Conference Foe Lees McRae

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's basketball team is set for its final non-conference game Wednesday night as the Spartans welcome Lees McRae to the Greensboro Coliseum for a 7 p.m. tip-off. The game will be broadcast on 1320 WCOG AM while both an audio and video stream will be available online at www.uncgspartans.com.

UNCG enters Wednesday's game with a 2-10 record overall sitting at 1-1 in the Southern Conference. The Spartans are coming off a tough setback to SoCon defending champion Davidson, 85-53, on the road.  UNCG leads the SoCon in scoring at 74.5 points per game but is allowing a league-high 81.6 points per game against.

Junior guard Trevis Simpson (Douglas, Ga./Coffee) leads the SoCon in scoring and ranks 34th in NCAA Division I averaging 19.1 points per game. He has scored in double figures in every game but one this year, including four games of at least 24 points.

Freshman forward Kayel Locke (Owings Mill, Md./McDonogh) continues to be a bright spot off the bench averaging 11.3 points per game. Senior guard Derrell Armstrong (Mechanicsville, Md./Allegany CC) is second on the team in scoring at 15.6 points per game, which ranks fifth in the league. Armstrong was the only Spartan to score in double figures against Davidson as he finished with 17 points, 13 of which came in the second half.
 
Wednesday's game marks the first meeting all-time between UNCG and Lees McRae. The Bobcats are a Division II college and are a part of Conference Carolinas.

Lees McRae enters the contest with an 0-11 record that includes a 0-4 mark in conference play. Senior guard Daniel Sepokas leads the team averaging 17.6 points per game. Sepokas poured in a team-high 24 points in a loss against Mount Olive last Saturday, 112-70, becoming the seventh player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau in his career.
