Men's Basketball Begins Five-Game Home Stretch Wednesday Versus Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's basketball team begins a season-high five-game Southern Conference home stand Wednesday night as the Spartans host Wofford at the Greensboro Coliseum at 7 p.m. The five-game home stretch to close out the month of January is the longest home stretch for any team in the SoCon this season.

The game will be broadcast on 1320 WCOG AM and online at www.uncgspartans.com with Scott Pryzwansky and Darryl Kosciak providing the call. Additionally, the game will be video streamed for free at www.uncgspartans.com.

Wednesday's game marks the 30th meeting all-time between UNCG and Wofford in series history. The Spartans trail the all-time series by a 20-9 margin and have dropped nine straight games to the Terriers. UNCG last picked up a victory in the series Nov. 27, 2006 with a 77-54 win in Greensboro.

Last year, the Spartans dropped a 68-56 loss to the Terriers at the Greensboro Coliseum playing without Trevis Simpson (Douglas, Ga./Coffee) who missed the game due to an injury. Wofford out-scored UNCG 38-28 in the second half on the way to the victory as it hit 51.1 percent (23-of-45) from the field and 85.7 percent (18-of-21) from the charity stripe.

Guard Derrell Armstrong (Mechanicsville, Md./Allegany CC) led the Spartans with 19 points off the bench on 7-of-17 shooting while Korey Van Dussen (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East) chipped in 11 points. Wofford was led by Brad Loesing who scored 19 points while Drew Crowell added 12 points as he was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field.

UNCG enters Wednesday's game with a 3-12 overall record and a 1-3 mark in SoCon play. The Spartans have dropped three straight league games, all on the road, to Davidson, Western Carolina and most recently Appalachian State. UNCG is the highest scoring team in the league this season with a 73.9 points per game average and own a 3-4 home record at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Simpson leads the team and the SoCon in scoring averaging 18.3 points per game. He returned to the court Monday at Appalachian State and scored 22 points off the bench in 27 minutes of action. He has scored over 20 points in five of 13 games this year and has reached double figures 11 times.

Armstrong is second on the team and third in the league in scoring at 16.9 points per game. Over his last seven games, he is averaging 18.7 points per game and has scored at least 16 points in all seven contests. He has posted back-to-back games of 20 or more points in league play.

Wofford enters Wednesday's game with a 7-10 and a 1-3 mark in SoCon. The Terries are 2-9 on the road this season, including an 0-2 mark in league play. Wofford has defeated Georgia Southern while dropping games to Davidson, Appalachian state and most recently Furman.

Karl Cochran leads the team in scoring and is fourth in the league at 16.3 points per game while placing second on the glass with 4.2 caroms per contest. Cochran has taken over 100 more shots than any other Terrier on the road as he is 103-of-286 (.360) from the field, while hitting 51 three-pointers. Lee Skinner is second on the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and grabs a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game.
