Bass' 68 puts him one shot back, Spartans fifth after two rounds at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – J.D. Bass is one shot off the lead and UNC Greensboro is tied for fifth after Saturday’s second round at the Furman Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament.

Bass fired a 68, tied with Samford’s Reed Davis for the best score of the day, to sit in a four-way tie for fourth place entering Sunday’s final round. Seven golfers are separated by one shot, 10 by two shots after 36 holes. Rhode Island’s Ben Spitz, Virginia Tech’s Ryan Sypniewski and Charleston Southern’s Stuart Carrihill are tied atop the standings at 141 through two rounds. Bass, Davis, East Carolina’s Robin Smith and Elon’s Jason Judy are all one shot behind.

East Carolina leads the team standings at 581. Virginia Tech is two shots back, while Rhode Island is four shots back and Elon sits five shots behind in the team standings. UNCG is tied fifth at 589, eight shots off the pace.

Sunday’s first group will tee off at 8 am to open the final round.
