Bass records fifth straight Top 20 as Spartans place ninth at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – J.D. Bass recorded his fifth straight Top 20 finish and the 16th of his career to help UNC Greensboro to a ninth-place finish at the Furman Intercollegiate on Sunday at Furman University Golf Club.

Bass, who entered the final round just one shot off the lead, shot a 77 on Sunday to place in a tie for 15th. Elon’s Jayson Judy shot a final round 69 to take the individual title by three shots over Jacksonville’s Duncan Stewart and Rhode Island’s Ben Spitz.

Nick Baker recorded UNCG’s best score of the day. After struggling in the first two rounds, Baker carded a 71 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 50th place.

Virginia Tech won the team title with a score of 873, four shots better than Elon. UNCG tied for ninth place along with Rhode Island and Wofford at 888. The tournament was a mini-preview of next month’s Southern Conference Championship. Amongst seven Southern Conference teams at the Furman Intercollegiate, the Spartans were tied for third.

UNCG is off until April 9 and 10 when they hit the course at Talking Stick GC in Scottsdale, AZ at the Cowboy Classic.
