Bowman records fifth career Top 20, UNCG ninth at Mason Rudolf

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – UNC Greensboro’s Will Bowman shot a final round 72 to record a Top 20 finish and help UNCG to a final round score of 291 and a ninth place finish at the Mason Rudolf Intercollegiate men’s golf tournament.

Bowman finished the weekend two-over and tied for 17th place and fourth career Top 20 finish. Kyle Sonday bounced back to shoot 72 on Sunday to tie Bowman for team-best round. The Spartans tied for ninth place with a tournament score of 869.

South Carolina, with three golfers in the Top 10, cruised to the team championship, eight shots better than SEC rival Kentucky. Kentucky’s Ben Fuqua ran away with the individual crown – literally. Fuqua equaled his round of 65 again on Sunday to shoot 15-under par 198 for the tournament and give him a seven-shot victory over Vanderbilt’s Jon Curran and Middle Tennessee State’s Jason Millard. On the weekend, Fuqua had 20 birdies and 29 pars in his 54 holes.

Bowman had a solid final round with 15 pars. He had bogeys in Nos. 2 and 12 and birdied 15 to finish the day one-over par. Sonday started out hot, sitting three-under par through six holes. But a bogey on No. 7 and a double bogey on No. 8 brought him back to even at the turn. He had six pars on the back side to finish the day one-over par.

UNCG will return to action on October 6 at the Notre Dame Gridiron Golf Classic.
