UNCG 10th after opening round at Georgetown
BEALLSVILLE, Md. – Four Spartans shot
rounds 75 to account for UNC Greensboro’s team score of 300
in the opening round of the Georgetown Intercollegiate at The
Members Club at Four Streams.
The tournament has been shortened to 36 holes after a two-hour
frost delay on Monday. Players were originally slated to play 36
holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday. However, Monday
morning’s delay caused tournament officials to eliminate one
of the three scheduled rounds.
Drew Younts, Will Bowman, Darragh Coughlan and Kyle Sonday all carded rounds of 75 to put the Spartans in a tie for 10th after the opening round. Miami (OH) University leads the team standings at 287, four shots better than Richmond and eight shots ahead of Campbell.
Saint Joseph’s Jim Ridgway leads the individual standings after carding an opening round 69. He leads William & Mary’s Doug Hurson and Miami’s Aaron Crist by one shot. They were the only three golfers to shoot under par on Monday. UNCG’s quartet of golfers are all tied for 27th place, six shots off the lead.
Tuesday’s final round has been pushed back to a 9:30 am start in anticipation of another frost delay.
