UNCG wins Fireline Towson Invitational

GRASONVILLE, Md. - Finishing the 54 holes with a team score of just two-over par 866, UNC Greensboro earned its second tournament win of the year, claiming the Fireline Towson Invitational men's golf tournament Sunday afternoon at Prosepct Bay CC.

It was the first time since 1997-98 that the Spartans have won two tournaments in the same season. Earlier this season, the Spartans won the Georgetown Intercollegiate. Prior to the win at Georgetown, UNCG hadn't recorded a tourney win since October 2006.

All five UNCG golfers finished in the Top 12 individually. Ryan Heisey finished tied for third at even-par 216 after shooting a final round 73. Colin Chapman was tied for sixth place after a final round 72 put him at 219 for the tournament. Robert Hoadley and Will Bowman finished tied for ninth place, each carding 220 for the tourney. Will Almand had the best round of the day on Sunday for the Spartans, shooting a final round 70 for a tournament total of 221.

Kent State's Mackenzie Hughes won the tournament after shooting a final round 66, the low score of the day. That put Hughes at 213, one shot better than Campbell's Vaita Guillaume and two shots ahead of Heisey and Mitch Gray of Campbell.

UNCG's team score of 866 was six shots better than Kent State and 28 strokes ahead of third-place Campbell.

The Spartans return to action Saturday when they travel to Augusta, Ga. for the Administaff ASU Invitational.
