PINEHURST, N.C. - UNC Greensboro freshman Robert Hoadley fired a final round 71 to earn his first collegiate tournament victory on Sunday at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate sponsored by Gatorade.
Hoadley, who grew up just next door in Southern Pines, N.C., finished the tournament at three-under par with a total of 213, one shot better than Virginia Tech's Mikey Moyers. Hoadley's previous best finish had been a tie for 15th place at the VCU shootout. Moyers shot a final round 73 after holding a share of the lead at the start of the day.
Hoadley's final round 71 helped the Spartans move into a tie for third in the final team standings. Virginia Tech won the team title at 876, four shots better than Old Dominion and 11 shots ahead of UNCG and Penn State.
UNCG's Colin Chapman missed out on a chance to finish in the Top 10 for the second straight tournament. Chapman, who was fifth to begin the day, carded a final round 79 to finish tied for 26th.
The Spartans return to action March 27 at the Fireline Towson Invitational.
