UNCG announces 2010-11 men's golf slate
GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG men's golf coach Terrance Stewart announced Tuesday his squad's schedule for the upcoming 2010-11 season.
The Spartans will open the fall portion of the 2010-11 slate in Minnesota for the second consecutive season. UNCG will be going to the University of Minnesota's Gopher Invitational in Wayzata, Minn. again next season at the Spring Hill Golf Club. UNCG finished 10th at the Gopher Invitational in September 2009.
UNCG will continue its fall slate with return trips to the VCU Shootout (Sept. 27-28) and Georgetown Intercollegiate (Oct. 18-19), while making new appearances at the Gary Koch Invitational and Rod Myers Invitational. The Spartans won the Georgetown Intercollegiate last season for their first team title in four years.
The Gary Koch Invitational will be co-hosted by Auburn and Kentucky and will be played at Tampa, Fla.'s Old Memorial CC. The Rod Myers Invitational will be at Duke Golf Course in Durham, N.C. The Spartans last appeared in Duke's tournament three years ago when it was known as the Coca-Cola Duke Classic.
UNCG will close out the fall by hosting one of the premier tournaments in the UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate. The tournament, which will be played Oct. 23-24 at Forest Oaks CC just outside of Greensboro, will include Auburn, Charlotte, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Pepperdine, Purdue, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, UNCG, Toledo, VCU, Virginia Tech.
The Spartans will resume play for their spring slate on March 7 in Puerto Rico at the Palmas Del Mar Intercollegiate. UNCG will also play in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate - a tournament won by UNCG rising sophomore Robert Hoadley last season, the C&F Bank Intercollegiate and the Irish Creek Collegiate before the Southern Conference Championship. The SoCon Championship will return again next season to the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.
