WAYZATA, Minn. – UNCG carded rounds of 292 and 299 on Sunday to sit in fifth place after two rounds at the Gopher Intercollegiate men's golf tournament, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Spring Hill Golf Club.
The Spartans were just one shot off the pace set by Kent State after Sunday's opening round, but LSU went from a 301 in the morning to a blistering 281 in the afternoon to hold a two-shot lead entering Monday's final round. Kent State is second at 584, followed by Arkansas and Charlotte at 588 and UNCG at 591, nine shots off the pace.
Colin Chapman sits in a tie for ninth place at even-par 144 to lead the Spartans. Freshman Andy Knox went out in the morning and shot a 69 in his first collegiate round, but shot a 77 in the afternoon, hampered by three consecutive bogeys at Nos. 17, 18 and 1 after starting with a par and a birdie on Nos. 15 and 16.
Kent State's John Hahn enters Monday's final round with a four-shot lead. He shot rounds of 68 and 67 on Sunday to have a comfortable lead over SMU's Kelly Kraft.
Monday's final round will get underway at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start. UNCG's golfers will begin in the same place they did Sunday – on hole Nos. 14 through 18.
