Three Spartans in top 20 give UNCG fourth-place finish at Gary Koch Invitational
TAMPA, Fla. – Andy Knox carded a final round 67 for the low round of the day amongst 66 players, which helped to give UNCG three players in the top 20 and a fourth-place finish at the Gary Koch Invitational men's golf tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Knox, regarded as one of the top freshmen in the country, bounced back from five consecutive difficult rounds to score the best round of the day and finish tied for 19th place. Robert Hoadley tied for 16th and Colin Chapman tied for 19th place to help the Spartans to their second consecutive round of 287. UNCG finished with a team score of 868.
Virginia, which began the day with a 16-shot lead, won the tournament with a score of 849. Auburn was second, nine shots back, followed by North Florida at 866 and UNCG. Florida State finished fifth at 870.
Virginia's Ben Kohles took individual honors despite a final round 75. He won by one shot over Florida State's Brooks Koepka and three shots over College of Charleston's John Duke Hudson and North Carolina's Jack Fields.
UNCG returns to action next weekend at the Rod Meyers Invitational at Duke Golf Club in Durham.
