BEALLSVILLE, MD – The UNCG men's golf team will look to defend its crown when the Spartans tee it up Monday at the Georgetown Intercollegiate.
The tournament will be played at The Members Club at Four Streams , a challenging layout designed by PGA Tour veteran Nick Price and famed golf architect Steve Smyers. The par-71, 7,102-yard course is set amidst the rolling Maryland farmland and has quickly become one of Maryland's finest golf facilities. The 12-team field will tee off on Monday morning at 8 a.m. and play 36 holes, with the final 18 holes starting on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Georgetown will play host to 11 teams for this year's tournament. Joining the host Hoyas are Campbell, DePaul, Detroit-Mercy, Eastern Michigan, Maryland, Miami (Ohio) University, UNCG, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, William & Mary and Xavier.
UNCG won last year's weather-shortened tournament, coming back from an 11-shot deficit and finishing with an 18-over par 586, three strokes ahead of Washington State. The Spartans had four players finish in the top-20 en route to the win. Will Almand recorded a career-best finish, tying for second with consecutive rounds of 72.
This is the fifth tournament in the Spartans' six-event fall slate. The Spartans will close out their fall slate hosting the prestigious UNCG Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at Forest Oaks Country Club on Oct. 23 and 24.
