Men’s golf adds three during early signing period
GREENSBORO, N.C.—UNCG men's golf head coach Terrance Stewart has announced that Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C.), Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C.) and Will Thomas (Cary, N.C.) have signed National Letters-of-Intent with the Spartans during the fall early signing period.
"Our signees in the class of 2012 are all great role models on an off the golf course," said Stewart. "Taylor, Will and Luke will have an immediate impact on our line-up and will help us compete for championships."
Coalson, a senior at North Surry High School in Mt. Airy, N.C., is the reigning North Carolina 2A champion. A three-time all-conference selection, Coalson also won the 2011 Joe Cheves Junior Invitational, a tournament which consists of championship junior golfers from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia Tennessee and Virginia.
In 2010, Coalson was named as the Tarheel Golf Foundation Player of the Year.
Haithcock, a senior at Williams High in Burlington, is currently the 33rd-ranked senior in the country by the National Junior Scoreboard. He helped lead Williams High to the 2011 3A state championship. Haithcock was also the individual runner-up in his conference.
Additionally, Haithcock was a first alternate for the U.S. Amateur Championship last summer, and he made the cut at the 2011 Carolinas Golf Association Men's Amateur and North Carolina Men's Match Play tournaments.
Thomas is a senior at Greenhope High School in Cary. The 2010 Dogwood State Champion, Thomas also finished as the runner-up at the AJGA All-Star, finishing second out of 109 golfers. He is currently ranked 75th in the country among juniors by Golfweek magazine.
Thomas won the Tri-9 conference championship in 2011, and helped lead Greenhope to 4A state titles in 2009 and 2010.
