GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Colin Chapman finished third overall at 3-under par, helping UNCG to a third-place team finish at the Washington State Snowman Getaway, which concluded play Tuesday at Palm Valley Golf Course.
Chapman fired a final round 73 on his way to a three round total of 213 (69-71-73). He finished five strokes behind individual medalist Mario Clements (208) of UCLA.
The Spartans shot 289 on Tuesday, finishing play at 890 (296-305-289). Only UMKC (877) and Missouri State (878) finished ahead of UNCG in the 16-team field.
"The guys played two very competitive rounds the last two rounds," said head coach Terrance Stewart. "We bounced back nicely after a sub-par performance in round one. I'm very proud of the way Colin played this week, and the team played particularly well today."
While Chapman was the only Spartan to finish in the top 20, several of his teammates enjoyed strong showings. Will Almand enjoyed the best final round of any Spartan, finishing tied for 23rd at 224 (75-78-71). Alex Ehlert tied for 44th at 228 (74-79-75).
Andy Knox also finished strong, shooting a 73 on Tuesday and ending play tied for 44th at 228 (78-77-73). Robert Hoadley, who struggled in earlier rounds, shot 72 on Tuesday and finished tied for 56th at 231 (78-81-72).
UNCG resumes play when they participate in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, March 10-11 at Pinehurst No. 6.
