Men's Golf Heads To Richmond For VCU Shootout
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team plays its second tournament of the season as it travels to Richmond, Va., for the eighth annual VCU Shootout Sept. 24-25 at the Hermitage Country Club. The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins Monday with 36 holes before concluding with 18 holes Tuesday. Both days will have an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
UNCG will bring six golfers to the event Monday, with five playing in the team portion and one playing as an individual. Senior Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C./Union Pines) leads the Spartans after posting a 74.33 stroke average last week in the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, including an even par 72 in his second round.
Sophomore Alex Ehlert (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) makes his first appearance of the season at the VCU Shootout. Ehlert played in a team-high 34 rounds last season and recorded a 74.91 stroke average, which is the top average among the four returners.
Freshmen Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) and Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) make their second appearance of the year after posting solid showings in their first collegiate event. Haithcock finished second on the team at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, firing a 224 three-round score, including a 1-over 73 in round one and an even-par 72 in round two. Coalson was tied for 45th in his first career tournament shooting a 225 with a low-score of 2-over par 74 in the final round.
Sophomore Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) rounds out the Spartans' five counting scores for the week. Dixon posted a 232 in the first tournament of the season after posting a 76.12 stroke average last year as a freshman. Senior Matt Younts (Stokesdale, N.C./Northwest Guilford) will make the trip and play as an individual after posting a 239 at the Tar Heel, including a 2-over par 74 in the final round.
