Men's Golf Hosts Eighth Annual Bridgestone Golf Collegiate This Weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf program will host one of the fall's most prestigious events this weekend holding the eighth annual Bridgestone Golf Collegiate at the Grandover Resort Saturday and Sunday. The Spartans will welcome in 12 teams to the 54-hole stroke play event that will see 36 holes Saturday followed by 18 holes Sunday to be played on the East Course. Bridgestone is the title sponsor for the sixth straight season.

The Bridgestone Golf Collegiate will be held for the first time at the Grandover Resort, which hosted the NCAA Division I Regional last May and hosted the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2011. The Grandover East Course plays at a par 72 with 7,245 yards designed by golf architects David Graham and Gary Panks. Each day, play will start with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with three-hole live scoring available at www.uncgspartans.com and Golf Stat.

This year's tournament field includes UNCG, Boston College, Chattanooga, Eastern Michigan, Georgia State, Iowa State, Maryland, Mississippi, Mississippi State, N.C. State, Purdue, VCU and Virginia Tech.

Last season, Iowa State won the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate when it was played at the Forest Oaks Country Club. The Cyclones posted a two-round score of 582 (297-285) in the rain-shortened event to finish five shots ahead of NC State. The Wolfpack's Albin Choi won the individual title after posting a 5-under par 139 (70-69) to win the event by two strokes over Michigan's Matt Thompson.

The Spartans enter the Bridgestone off of back-to-back tournaments in October playing in Atlanta and Raleigh. UNCG posted ninth place finish at the AutoTrader.com Tournament and an 11th place finish at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate earlier this month.

The Spartans have been led through four events by a pair of freshmen in Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) and Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams) who lead the team in stroke average. Coalson has the lowest score through 12 rounds with a 74.92 stroke average while Haithcock is second with a 75.42 average.

Senior Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C./Union Pines) will be in the top spot in the lineup after being the Spartans' top finish in Raleigh. Hoadley posted a three-round score of 225 (75-78-72), including an even par third round matching the lowest round for UNCG at the event.

Rounding out the UNCG lineup for the Bridgestone Collegiate are sophomores Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) and classmate Alex Ehlert (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive). Senior Matt Younts (Stokesdale, N.C./Northwest Guilford) and freshman Will Brown (Statesville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) will play as individuals in the event.
