Men's Golf Battles High Point In Carolina Cup Match Play

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's golf team opens the spring portion of the 2012-13 season this weekend as the Spartans face off against Triad rival High Point in the inaugural Carolina Cup Match Play event Saturday and Sunday at the Grandover Resort.

The teams will play seven matches Saturday at Grandover Resort-West Course, before rounding out the event with seven matches Sunday at Grandover Resort-East Course. All 14 matches will be single head-to-head matches with the winner of each match earning a point for their team.

Seniors Robert Hoadley (Southern Pines, N.C./Union Pines) and Matt Younts (Stokesdale, N.C./Northwest Guilford) will hold down the top two spots in the seven-member lineup for the Spartans this weekend. Hoadley, an All-Southern Conference performer as sophomore, posted a 76.47 stroke average in the fall while Younts fired a career-low round of 70 to open the VCU Shootout in September.

Sophomores Roy Dixon (Salisbury, N.C./Salisbury) and Alex Ehlert (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) will hold down the third and fourth positions on the weekend. Dixon posted a 77.13 stroke average during the fall highlighted by a 35th place finish at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate while Ehlert recorded a 76.67 stroke average in 12 rounds in the fall, including a 19th place finish at the Bridgestone.

Rounding out the Spartans' lineup is a trio of freshmen Luke Haithcock (Burlington, N.C./Williams), Taylor Coalson (Dobson, N.C./North Surry) and Wilson Brown (Statesville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day).
