Richardson named SoCon Men's Soccer Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro senior midfielder Mike Richardson was named the first Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the 2006 season on Tuesday afternoon.

Richardson, a native of Dobson, NC, and product of Surry Central HS, had a goal and an assist in both of UNCG's wins last week to amass six points already this season. He had a hand in both game-winning goals as UNCG started the season 2-0-0.

Richardson, who had just eight points (3g, 2a) all of last season, sparked UNCG's rally in the season-opening win over Jacksonville. With the Spartans trailing 2-1, Richardson connected on a penalty kick with 11:13 to play to tie the game. That changed the momentum as UNCG scored two more times in the next 10 minutes to come away with the win. He also assisted on the game-winning goal scored by Henning Jonasson with 5:51 to play.

Against Stetson, Richardson scored the game-winner with 5:33 to play. He also assisted on UNCG's first goal of the day.

The Spartans, ranked No. 7 in Soccer America, No. 13 in College Soccer News and No. 16 in Soccer Times this week, play host to Campbell University on Wednesday at 7 pm at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
