UNCG's Peyton Ford named Southern Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG sophomore goalkeeper Peyton Ford was named the Southern Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday for his play in the Spartans' two victories last week.

Ford, a native of Jamestown, N.C. and product of Southwest Guilford HS, did not allow a goal in 175 minutes of action in net as UNCG picked up two keys wins to wrap up a share of the SoCon regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Ford had three saves in the two wins as UNCG shut out Appalachian State, 3-0, and Furman, 1-0.

In UNCG's current seven-match unbeaten streak (5-0-2, 2-0-1 SoCon), Ford has a 0.82 GAA and an .806 save percentage. For the year, Ford has logged 1592 minutes and has four shutouts on his way to a 1.19 GAA. Three of his four shutouts have come during the unbeaten streak. He also has a .734 save percentage on the season, recording 58 saves.

With last week's two wins, the Spartans have moved up to No. 41 in the RPI rankings that were released Tuesday by the NCAA. UNCG is one of five teams in the league ranked in the Top 100. The Spartans' ranking is bolstered by its win over William & Mary, which is ranked seventh with a 12-2-2 mark, and a tie with SoCon rival College of Charleston, which comes in at No. 26 this week.

UNCG closes out the regular season tonight (Tuesday) at Longwood. It will host Georgia Southern in a Southern Conference Tournament quarterfinal round match on Saturday at 7 p.m.
