Hakan Ilhan named SoCon Men's Soccer Player of the Month

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG sophomore Hakan Ilhan has been named the Southern Conference's Men's Soccer Player of the Month for October after helping the Spartans to a share of the SoCon regular season title.

Ilhan, a native of Stuttgart, Germany, had 15 points in the month on five goals and five assists. He logged a point in six of eight matches in the month as UNCG went 5-1-2 overall and 4-1-2 in league play. To close out the month, he had the assist on the only tally of the night in a 1-0 match at Furman on Oct. 30 to give UNCG a share of the league's regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Southern Conference Championship tournament.

Including his goal at Longwood on Tuesday night, Ilhan now has a point in five consecutive matches. He leads the Southern Conference in scoring with 23 points on eight goals and seven assists. That total also ranks in the Top 30 nationally.

The Spartans (9-5-4) will return to action Saturday at 7 p.m. when they host eighth-seeded Georgia Southern in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference Championship at UNCG Soccer Stadium. Admission is free.
