Ilhan, Miller lead Spartans past North Florida, 3-0

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Hakan Ilhan scored twice and added an assist, and Austin Miller collected his first collegiate goal as UNCG eased to a 3-0 victory over North Florida, Friday at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
Playing for the first time in nine days the Spartans (2-1-0) dominated the Ospreys (1-2-0), owning a 17-8 advantage in shots including 6-2 in shots on-goal. UNCG out-shot UNF 11-2 in the first half.
After failing to score despite dominating the early stages of the match, the Spartans got on the board when North Florida's defense failed to clear ball from in front of its goal. Ilhan stole the ball 10 yards out and tapped a shot past a sprawling Federico Bertele for a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.
Ilhan struck again just before halftime, thanks to a strong play by Miller. Playing just outside the box, Miller spun past a helpless defender and was brought to the ground just inside the box. North Florida was called for a foul and Ilhan converted his second penalty kick of the season, giving UNCG a 2-0 lead.
The Spartans had several chances to extended their advantage early in the second half, but didn't convert until late in the half when Miller took a thru ball from Ilhan and Cameron Owens and knocked a shot past Bertele for a 3-0 lead in the 78th minute.
Ilhan enjoyed his second multi-goal match of the season and the sixth of his career.
Peyton Ford and Davis Griffin shared time in goal for the Spartans, combining to stop a pair of shots (one save apiece). Bertele made a pair of saves for UNF.
The Spartans return to action when they visit No. 17 Charlotte, 7 p.m., Sunday in Charlotte, N.C.
