SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG junior goalkeeper Peyton Ford has been chosen as the Southern Conference men's soccer player of the week for all matches from October 10-16.
Ford recorded a pair of shutouts on the week as the Spartans earned a scoreless draw against Davidson and a 4-0 victory at Wofford on Saturday.
The Jamestown, N.C., native stopped four shots last week, as the Spartans' defense minimized the opponents' attack in both matches.
With 13 career shutouts and four on the season, Ford has lowered his goals against average in 2011 to 0.79, and in four SoCon matches, he has surrendered just one score. He is one behind current assistant coach Jay Benfield for second on UNCG's career shutouts list.
Ford has been especially outstanding of late, having allowed just three goals over his last 579 minutes for a 0.47 goals-against average in that span. In SoCon play Ford has allowed just one goal in 380 minutes (0.24 gaa).
The Spartans take a break from conference action when they host Longwood, 7 p.m., Wednesday at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
