SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG senior goalkeeper Peyton Ford has been chosen as the Southern Conference men's soccer player of the week for all matches from October 24-30. This is Ford's second player of the week honor this season.
Ford posted consecutive shutouts as the Spartans clinched the SoCon regular season title with victories over Georgia Southern and Elon. The senior became UNCG's career Division I shutouts leader after blanking the SoCon's most potent offensive team, Georgia Southern, 5-0.
He followed that with four saves in the title-clinching, 1-0 win at Elon, which was the Spartans' first victory at Rudd Field in eight years.
A large part of UNCG's successful run in conference play this season, the Jamestown, N.C., native finished the SoCon season with a 0.14 goals-against average, surrendering just one goal in seven league matches.
Ford and the Spartans close out the regular season when they host UNC Wilimington, 7 p.m., Tuesday. UNCG opens Southern Conference Tournament play by hosting Wofford, 7 p.m., Saturday at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
