GREENVILLE, S.C. - Orcun Seyrek won his 26th match of the year, one shy of a school record, but UNC Greensboro lost to Furman, 5-2, in Southern Conference men's tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
The same two teams will see each other next weekend. Furman will be the No. 2 seed in next weekend's Southern Conference Tournament, while UNCG will be the No. 3 seed. The teams will play at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Seyrek defeated Sawyer Duncan, 7-5 and 6-2, to run his record to 26-5 this season, one win shy of Alex Lenhoff's single-season mark of 27 set in 1996-97. Seyrek is 17-2 during the spring slate.
Yaroslav Litus picked up UNCG's other win on the day with a victory at No. 4 singles. Litus defeated Jordan Walters, 7-5 and 6-3, to pick up his 18th win of the year.
But the Paladins won the other four singles matches, three of them in straight sets, and swept the three doubles matches to move to 12-10 overall, 8-1 in SoCon play. UNCG dropped to 15-5 overall, 8-2 in SoCon play.
