Kumdereli victorious on opening day of ITA Carolinas Regional

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Arsel Kumdereli advanced to the second round of play to highlight UNC Greensboro's opening day of play at the ITA Carolinas Regional on Friday, being co-hosted by North Carolina and Duke.
Kumdereli topped Winthrop's Nadav Ruppin in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-4. He will face 17th-seeded Evgeny Slesarev of Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon in Chapel Hill.

Four other Spartans lost in the opening round of singles play on Friday. Eighth-seeded Orcun Seyrek will begin play on Saturday after an opening round bye.
