Spartans head to Elon for weekend tournament
ELON, N.C. - The UNCG men's tennis team returns to action this weekend when it travels across I-40 to backyard rival Elon for the Elon Invitational beginning Friday.
UNCG joins tournament host Elon, Longwood, UNC Wilmington, Tenn. Tech, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia Southern, Radford, Liberty, Presbyterian, Duke, Winston-Salem State in the tournament. There will be five brackets of singles and five brackets of doubles.
The Spartans are coming off a successful weekend at the Baras Fall Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. last weekend. Zach Reece earned a singles title and the tandem of Yaroslav Litus and Jacob Wright won a doubles crown. Reece knocked off No. 1 seeded Cedric de Zutter from Memphis in a three-set thriller. Reece rallied back after losing the first set, 6-2, to win the next two sets by scores of 6-2 and 7-5 for his first collegiate championship. Litus and Wright, who were seeded No. 1 in the doubles flight 2, made quick work of Eastern Kentucky's Hugo Klientovsky and Carlos Pons, the second-seed in the bracket. Litus and Wright won the pro-set by an 8-2 score to claim the flight championship.
