Seyrek named SoCon Player of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG junior Orcun Seyrek was named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Wednesday for his performance in matches Feb. 28 through March 6.
Seyrek won his matches at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as UNCG opened Southern Conference play with a 6-1 win over Wofford on Saturday. UNCG won its SoCon opener for the third season in a row.
The Istanbul, Turkey, native picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Wofford's Tinus Van Wyk in singles play after partnering with Timion Meijs for the first time ever for an 8-4 win over Van Wyk and Stuart Robertson in doubles action.
The award is the third of Seyrek's career. He also took the honor twice in 2009, when he was the SoCon Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
After UNCG downed Longwood 5-2 on Tuesday, Seyrek is now 5-4 in dual play and 13-6 overall this season.
The Spartans (6-3, 1-0 SoCon) return to action Thursday at Samford at 2 p.m.
