GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's Orcun Seyrek, Chanon Varapongsittikul and Jimmy Roueche are through to the semifinals of their respective singles flights after Friday's first day of action at the UNCG Fall Invitational at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

Seyrek, the second seed in the A1 singles flight, picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gardner-Webb's Adam Knutsson in the quarterfinals of that bracket after an opening-round bye. Sophomore Ahmet Sarioglu dropped a close 7-6 (5), 7-5 decision to Liberty's Siim Tuus in that flight but rebounded with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over UNC Asheville's Matt Waissen in the consolation bracket.

Top-seeded Trpimir Kujundzic of Virginia Tech fell to UNCA's Adrien Langeard in the quarters.

Varapongsittikul, the second seed in the A2 flight, defeated Gardner-Webb's Ernest Alberch, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarters.

Freshman Randy Phillips picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Elon's Andrew Prince in the round of 16 of the A3 flight but fell to UNCA's John Schubel in the quarters, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Spartan freshman Will Kent fell to UNCA's Tom Rees, the third seed in the flight, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Kent rebounded with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Campbell's Ondrej Kralik in the consolation bracket.

Roueche, the top seed in the A4 flight, cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win over UNCA's Will Goldberg in the quarters of that bracket.

In doubles action, Kent and Roueche teamed up for an 8-1 win over North Carolina Central's Fabrice George and Jamal Hoyte in the B Doubles bracket.

Day two of the UNCG Invitational begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
