Kent, Phillips win backdraw titles at Elon Invitational
ELON, N.C. – Freshman Will Kent won his singles flight's backdraw title and Kent and classmate Randy Phillips teamed up to win their doubles flight's backdraw final at the Elon Invitational on Sunday.
Kent downed USC Upstate's Pierre Vernin in the B2 Singles backdraw title match, 6-0, 6-1. Kent, a Wilmgton, N.C., native, won three straight matches over two days to claim the consolation title after losing in Friday's first round of the main draw.
Kent and Phillips downed North Carolina Wesleyan's Alexey Rumyantsev and Robert Kjellberg, 8-4 in the B1 Doubles backdraw title contest.
UNCG concludes the fall portion of its schedule at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C., this Thursday-Sunday.
