DURHAM, N.C. – UNCG's men's tennis team picked up a pair of doubles wins Thursday at the USTA/ITA Carolinas Regional Championships at Duke's Sheffield Tennis Center.
Will Kent and Jimmy Roueche earned an 8-2 win over North Carolina Central's Fabrice George and Jamal Hoyte in the round of 56 at the tournament. The duo then fell to Duke's Henrique Cunha and Chris Mengel, 8-1, on the Blue Devils' home courts.
UNCG's Randy Phillips and Chanon Varapongsittikul also grabbed a win Thursday, dropping Campbell's August Iwdal and Ondrej Kralik, 8-3. Wake Forest's Danny Kreyman and Adam Lee knocked out the Spartan tandem in the next round, 8-4.
Orcun Seyrek and Ahmet Sarioglu, who received a first-round bye, fell to Furman's Alex Christ and Joel Cook, 8-5.
Singles play at the regional begins Friday at 8 a.m. at North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill and the Sheffield Tennis Center in Durham.
