GREENSBORO, N.C. – Brett Bernstein has been named as assistant coach for the men's tennis team, as announced Monday by head coach Thomas Mozur.
"I am thrilled to have Brett Bernstein as part of my tennis staff," said Mozur. "He will bring youth and energy to practice every day. Brett is a very good player and will add much value to our tennis program as a hitting partner as well."
Bernstein played four seasons for the University of Texas-Pan American from 2006-10. In his opening collegiate start as a freshman he started off strong with a win against No. 20 Texas A&M All-American doubles team. As a sophomore, Bernstein posted two wins against No.33 Clemson as a team captain. In the 2008-09 season at UTPA, Bernstein and the Broncs ranked as high as No. 2 in the Southland Conference and defeated rival No. 39 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a 4-2 victory.
"I am very excited to join the UNCG program," said Bernstein. "I am looking forward to meeting the team and getting to know their games. Having the opportunity to work alongside Thomas Mozur, who has had great success with the program, is a huge honor."
The Sugarland, Texas native, while playing No.2 singles went 14-7 and was 18-4 at No. 1 doubles with then sophomore brother Beau Bernstein, earning them a top 100 ITA ranking. Bernstein ended his UTPA career leading his team in the Southland Conference Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record in singles and doubles.
