Men's Tennis Opens Season at Elon Fall Invitational

Elon Invitational Draws

GREENSBORO, N.C.
– UNCG's men's tennis program will begin its 2012 fall season Friday, Sept. 21 through Sunday Sept. 23, at the Elon Fall Invitational. Play will begin each day at 9:30 a.m.

"We have a very young team so I'm extremely excited to see how they perform under their first tournament of the year," said head coach Thomas Mozur. "I'm just hoping they gain some experience. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of butterflies, a lot of nervousness, but that's why we're starting out at the Elon Invitational."

The tournament will include student-athletes from host Elon, ECU, ODU, Wake Forest, NC Wesleyan, Campbell, UNC-Asheville, Winthrop, James Madison, Longwood, USC Upstate, Coastal Carolina, and UNCG.

Competing in the Elon Fall Invitational this weekend are four returners from last year's squad including: Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga. / Brookwood), Jimmy Roueche (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley), Ahmet Sarioglu (Ankara, Turkey / METU Development Foundation) and Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C. / Ragsdale).

Last season at the tournament Will Kent won his singles flight consolation title and then teamed up with Randy Phillips to win their double's flight backdraw final.

The Spartans have four more fall tournaments before beginning the spring season in January: the Chattanooga Fall Invitational in Chattanooga, TN, the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., the ITA Carolina Regional in Cary, N.C., and the Winthrop Fall Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
