Men's Tennis Has Successful Second Day In Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. –  Freshman William Albright (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) advanced to the finals round of the UTC/Steve Baras Fall Classic with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Samford University's Garrison Laduca Saturday. 

"It was a good day going 5-1 in singles matches played and 2-0 in doubles," said head coach Thomas Mozur. "We looked like a team today."

Junior Jimmy Roueche (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) dueled in a first set tiebreaker, but fell short to Ricardo Pabon from ETSU, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. 

Sophomore Randy Phillips (Snellville, Ga. / Brookwood) picked up 6-4, 6-1 win against Kennesaw State's Alexander Pena in consolation, while freshman Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla. / Park Vista) won in consolation 6-0, 6-4 against Richard Gamble from Lee University.

Phillips and Murray will battle each other in the final consolation round on Sunday. Freshman James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) and classmate Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla. / Lakeland) also won in consolation and will play in their flights' final rounds Sunday.

In doubles play, Dougherty and Phillips beat MTSU's Yannick Born and Marion Brand, 8-5.

Mack teamed up with sophomore Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C. / Ragsdale) to win 8-6 against Citadel's Matt McGill and Jackson Pride.

Albright and Roueche advanced to the doubles finals round due to their opponents withdrawing. Murray and junior Ahmet Sarioglu (Ankara, Turkey / METU Development Foundation) moved on to doubles consolation finals due to their opponent's withdrawing due to injury as well.

Play at the UTC/Steve Baras Fall Classic will conclude Sunday, starting at 8:30 a.m.
