GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's tennis program will host their first dual match of the 2013 spring season as they take on Coastal Carolina Friday, February 1, at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
"We always try to keep it simple, we're just trying to get better every day," said head coach Thomas Mozur. We got some good experience playing as a team at the Army Challenge. I think it was a good start to get some confidence for the new guys. We have a big test tomorrow against Coastal Carolina. They're an experienced team so we'll have another test in front of us and hopefully we'll do okay."
The Spartans started off the spring season at the Army Challenge where they faced Army, Marist and Gardner-Webb. UNCG went 17-21 in singles play and 12-16 in doubles.
Freshmen James Dougherty (Melbourne, Australia) and Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla. / Park Vista) lead the team alongside junior Ahmet Sarioglu (Ankara, Turkey / METU Development Foundation) when each went 3-0 in singles matches.
Coastal Carolina opened their spring campaign with a 6-1 victory over Mercer giving them a 1-0 record for the season so far. The Chanticleers were dominant in singles play, winning five of six matches over the Bears.
The Blue and Gold will face the Chants tomorrow beginning at noon.
