GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG men's tennis program will take a break in SoCon play when it hosts Texas-Pan American Tuesday, March 12. Play will begin at 12 p.m. at the UNCG tennis courts.
"Coach Goode is a former player at UNCG," said head coach Thomas Mozur. "We look forward to hosting him and UT-Pan American. It should be a very competitive match."
The Spartans are coming off of a 6-1 victory over Wofford on Saturday, advancing their record to 6-0 for the season and 2-0 in the SoCon.
Freshman Daniel Mack (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland) and junior Ahmet Sarioglu(Ankara, Turkey/METU Development Foundation) won their match against Walker Heffron and Rob Galloway, 8-6.
Sophomore Cameron Smith (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) and freshman Gaston Murray (Lake Worth, Fla./Park Vista) took down Parks Thompson and Jackson Keith, 8-4.
Sophomore Randy Phillips(Snellville, Ga./Brookwood) and freshman William Albright (Greensboro, N.C. / Grimsley) won 8-5 against Drew Superstein and Graham Duncan.
In singles play, Sarioglu won two of three sets to win his match, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 against Galloway, while Murray won an easy first set, 6-2, but fell in his second set 6-2. The match came down to a third-set tiebreaker where Murray fell to Superstein, 7-6(6-2).
Phillips defeated Keith, 6-1, 6-3, while Mack picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Heffron.
Smith fought to win in straight sets against Duncan, 6-2, 7-5. Albright won in an easy two-set match against Thompson, 6-1, 6-2.
Texas-Pan American holds a 4-5 record so far this season. The Broncs have had their greatest singles success at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 positions, going 5-4 at No. 6 and 4-5 at the other two. Texas-Pan American competes against Elon Monday, March 10, before facing UNCG Tuesday.
