Jennifer Severns named asst. coach for track/cross country

GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro cross country and track & field coach Linh Nguyen announced Tuesday the appointment of Jennifer Severns to the position of assistant coach within the program.

Severns fills a vacant position that had been held by Nguyen prior to his elevation to head coach. A 2002 graduate of Central Michigan University, Severns served as an assistant coach at Division III Dickinson College last year in Carlisle, PA. Prior to that, she spent time as an assistant coach at Mt. Pleasant HS in Mt. Pleasant, MI. At Dickinson last year, the team placed sixth at the NCAA Division III National Championship meet after winning conference and NCAA East Regional titles. With the Red Devils, she coached three All-Americans last year.

“I'm very excited to have Jennifer join our cross country and track staff,” said Nguyen. “She brings with her valuable experience, not only as a coach but also as a recruiter and academic mentor. Jennifer has been a part of the sport on many levels and the lessons she's learned along the way are going to be a great asset as she helps to guide our student-athletes.

“Jennifer has a tremendous enthusiasm for the sport that I feel will go a long way in helping us take this program to the next level. She is going to be a wonderful addition to our program and I'm looking forward to working with her.”

While at Central Michigan, Severns was a member of the cross country team for two seasons and served tenures in the University’s Athletic Academic Center and with the athletic marketing department. She has also served internships with USA Triathlon and the United States Bobsled and Skeleton Federation.

Severns, who is currently working on her master’s degree in Sports Administration from Central Michigan, will assume her duties at UNCG beginning July 1.
