Thompson leads UNCG on first day of Duke Invitational
DURHAM, N.C. - Joey Thompson claimed first place in the 1,500 meter seeded race to pace UNC Greensboro during the first day of the Duke Invitational on Friday.
Thompson finished the race in a time of 3:54.20, which won him the event by just .20 seconds. His time was also less than four seconds off his school record.
Jermaine Coore also had a nice race in the event as he turned in a top-25 performance with his time of 3:59.57. His time was the sixth-best in school history. Andy Clyne also finished in less than four minutes as he ran a 3:59.73.
Sherrika Jordan led the women's team on Friday as she turned in a fifth-place finish in the 1,500 meter developmental race with a season-best time of 5:00.60.
The Spartans will wrap up the Duke Invitational on Saturday as they compete in the 800 meters as well as the 2,000 and 3,000 meter steeplechase.
