Katam named SoCon Track Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG freshman Paul Katam has been named Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for his performance for all meets, March 11-13.  The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

Katam, a freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, placed fourth in the 1,500 meter run at the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational last weekend.  It was Katam's first attempt at that distance, and his time of 3:56.81 places him second on the all-time UNCG list.

His time in the 1,500 meters currently ranks seventh in the NCAA Division I East Region and 31st nationally.

 

Other top performers this week included:
The Citadel sophomore Danny Till – Won the 200m in a time of 22.25 and finished third in the 100m with a time of 10.94 at the Palmetto Classic in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Samford junior Cavan Corcaron – Finished second at the Southern Invitational in the 400m hurdles.  His time of 56.21 was a personal best in the event.
