Pair of school records fall for UNCG at Duke Invitational
DURHAM, N.C. – Chelsea Sumney captured the school record in the 3,000 meters and Anna Grimes set a new mark in the 2,000 meter steeplechase to lead UNCG on the final day of the Duke Invitational on Saturday.
Sumney's time of 10:05.65 broke former teammate Katie Hansen's school record she set last year at the Wake Forest Open by just over seven seconds.
Grimes also turned in a school record as she finished in third place in the 2,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 7:30.28. That time broke the previous record set in 2003 by Heidi Pinkerton by nearly 15 seconds.
Kelly Montague also ran a good race in the 2,000 meter steeplechase as she came in fifth place after running a 7:38.01. That time would've also beaten the previous school record.
The Spartans will return to action in two weeks as they compete at the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. beginning on April 22.
