UNCG wraps up day one at SoCon Championship
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Joey Thompson qualified for the 800 meter finals and Kelly Montague was named All-Freshman in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to lead UNCG on the first day of the Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday.
Thompson finished in ninth place in the 800 meter prelims to qualify for the finals after running a season-best time of 1:55.14. Teammate Parker Wenos finished just .04 seconds behind Thompson as he narrowly missed making the finals.
On the women's side, Anna Grimes finished in sixth place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 11:21.12. Kelly Montague finished up in a time of 11:59.81 to earn SoCon All-Freshman honors in the event.
In the 10,000 meters, Ginny Cronley ran a 37:48.44 to finish in seventh, which was just seven seconds off her previous personal-best time.
The Spartans will wrap up the SoCon Championships on Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. EST.
